While our latest ship, Celebrity Ascent, is currently turning heads in the Mediterranean, our next groundbreaking ship, Celebrity Xcel, reached a major milestone in France, when workers at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard laid the keel of the ship.

President of Celebrity Cruises Laura Hodges Bethge, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group Jason Liberty, and executives from the shipyard helped lower the first 739-ton steel block into place. As part of a time-honored maritime tradition, they then placed newly minted coins on the first piece of steel to bestow good luck on the ship during construction and on future sailings.

“We can’t wait to debut Celebrity Xcel and her unrivaled guest experiences, living up to her name in every way with surprises that confirm Nothing Comes Close to a Celebrity vacation,” Laura said. “We are grateful for the continued partnership of the shipyard team for lending their craftsmanship to further elevate the innovative design and world-class features of our beloved Edge Series ships.”

Celebrity Xcel promises to raise the bar once again for what you can expect, and get, during a vacation with us. Celebrity Xcel will debut in November 2025, sailing from Fort Lauderdale on seven-night itineraries alternating between the Bahamas, Mexico and the Cayman Islands, the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten.

In honor of World Oceans Day 2024, we spoke with Celebrity Beyond’s Environmental Officer Georgios Kakaroumpas, who has been part of our family for 18 years. Growing up in Greece, Georgios fell in love with the water at a young age, and his passion for marine life and conservation paved the way to his dream career with us—and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him on the team.
